Some of the fund-raising events that took place at Howden School this year included: soak the teachers, a bun sale, non-uniform day, read-a-thon and guess the sweets in the jar. Each event raised a significant amount of money. Soak the teacher managed to raise 172.39, in just a few minutes. Guess the sweets raised 23.55. A Year 7 student was the closest with his guess of and the real total was 231, which was a fab guess as it was only 2 sweets off.
Staff and students could pay to buy a wet sponge or bucket of water and try and aim it at the head, deputy head, and assistant head. Many children participated and had lots of fun. The teachers said that they hated getting wet but it was for a good cause! kitchen wall decor
Also a range of scrumptious buns and cakes were on sale at break time for only 50p, almost every student wanted a bun. We were over whelmed by the number of buns donated by students and teachers. The bun sale made a lot of money as it raised 159.77 and the bus were only 50p and 20p each which is an amazing price.
35 students and 4 staff took part in a 24 hour read-a-thon, they had to read non-stop for 24 hours (excluding a short break and meal time). The school library was crammed to the brim with students and teachers reading. As a special treat the school arranged a pizza delivery from a local take away, we also got a visit from Mr Storey and his dog, Herbert. Neve, a year 7 student was amongst the few people managed to stay awake for the full 24 hours, Mr Cannon received a special mention for getting the most sleep.
1) How well do you think the day went? I thought it was really good and went really well, everything went to plan and everyone said how good the day was, and the best bit is we have raised more than 1800!
2) What part of the day did you like the most? I enjoyed the countdown at the end of the read-a-thon and when we got a special breakfast that the kitchen staff cooked especially for us. Also I enjoyed the bun sale as there were some really fantastic buns for sale and I love that everyone wanted a bun.
